Francesco De Maio
The Blue Ponti Tiles are a reproduction of the white and blue majolica that Gio Ponti designed for the Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento. Almost 60 years later, Ceramica Francesco De Maio is the exclusive dealer of Gio Ponti's creations, producing the 33 decorations using the same glazes, supports and colors in a symbol of tradition continuity.
Handcrafted using the materials and enamels as well as the artistic techniques of the centuries-old Vietri tradition, these tiles feature a striking tromp d'oeil design of great visual effect. One box has 25 square tiles measuring 20x20 cm and features a design of white and blue fragmented stripes on a light blue background. An original composition of color and geometry in which bold patterns are at the forefront.
Campania, Italy - Ceramist
In 1963, Francesco De Maio established his workshop of handcrafted ceramics, hoping to keep alive the artistic heritage of Vietri sul Mare, a small town on the Amalfi Coast. His artistic tile-making craftsmanship is widely praised, particularly for his "riggiole" tiles used for churches' floors and dwellings of noblemen. De Maio reinterprets the family tradition by designing collections that align with new tastes and trends. His handmade ceramic tiles are decorated with classical motifs, using traditional enamels that add an exclusive finish to his pieces.
