Rebel Rebel Records Top 5

This week Rebel Rebel Records is remembering one of Lou Reed’s best, Transformer and it’s impact is more relevant than ever.  From Walk On The Wild Side to Perfect Day and Satellite Of Love this album will forever live on as a transformative masterpiece of rock and roll.  Even David Bowie his longtime friend had a hand in making these songs speak volumes about Warhol’s New York scene where punk, rock and roll and potent lyrics collide.  It’s a remarkable capsule of compelling artistry and inspired the next Top 5 entry this week no doubt.  Arcade Fire’s fourth album Reflektor and follow up to Grammy winning album of the year of The Suburbs of 2010 is simply fantastic.  Bowie, who is also a huge fan since the beginning joins the group on this LCD Soundsystem/James Murphy produced thriller!  Next up is Babyshambles return and an honest and compelling album led by Pete Dougherty.  Feelin Good by Nightmares On Wax is full bodied and genuinely orchestral collection of songs from George Evelyn.  And finally, Sampha’s EP Dual rounds out this weeks Top 5.  He’s been compared to Frank Ocean and has produced for Jessie Ware and remixed the xx but these songs find him happily producing, playing piano and singing on his own and his distinctive soulful voice should be around for a very long time.
